The 4th SAKANA & JAPAN FESTIVAL 2023 (Fish Japan Festival) has just started today in Yoyogi Park and will run for 4 days through February 26. So don’t miss out fresh seafood like Tuna, salmon, salmon roe(ikura), sea urchin(uni), crab, oyster from all over the country!

And, combined with related event “Discovery! Fukushima Fish Festival”, about 1.2 million people will come to this event. Thus this is the Japan’s largest seafood gourmet festival with about 80 concessions.

On the first day of the event, which is today, 2 huge paella pans will appear at the venue. And they will cook a total of 400 servings of “Joban Monkfish Paella” and “Alaskan Sockeye Salmon & Salmon Paella” at once. So many people can taste both for free! But be careful. This is a first-come, first-served basis.

So who orchestras this paella demonstration? It’s Mr. Yasutake Kurihara, the owner chef of the popular Spanish restaurant “El Tragon” in Toranomon, Tokyo.

Then, after paella tasting, head out to fish cutting show! A Kishu Wakayama tuna specialty store “Kuroshio Market” is participating in this event this year. And they will do cutting show of fresh bluefin tuna shipped directly from Katsuura Fishing Port. In fact, this port has the largest tuna fishing volume in Japan. So visitors can taste seafood bowl with freshly cut tuna. Mouth-watering!

So what’s next? Let’s check out monkfish cutting show! A fish cutting technician will hang and cut monkfish into parts called “7 tools” including meat, liver, skin, and gills. As you know, this fish is considered very resourceful and they don’t waste any part of the fish!
