Hawaii’s popular restaurant “Koko Head Cafe” opened its first Japanese location in Tokyo by Tokyo station on April 17.

Honolulu’s popular cafe has landed in Japan for the first time!

Koko Head Cafe, which opened in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2014, is a popular restaurant among locals and tourists. They serve local food with an Asian taste for breakfast and brunch.

The owner-chef Lee Anne Wong, has experience working as a chef at a Japanese kaiseki restaurant. And now she was able to fulfill her dream of opening her own restaurant in Japan since the opening of the original Koko Head Cafe.

Who is Lee Anne Wong?

Actually, she is originally from Troy, New York. While studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology, she worked as a bartender at a restaurant run by Tony Yoshida, who made Japanese cuisine popular in New York.

Aspiring to become a chef, she studied the basics of cooking and French techniques at the French Culinary Institute. And she started to gain experience at famous restaurants around the world.

In 2013, she moved to Hawaii where her partner lives, and launched Koko Head Cafe.

And she is a celebrity chef who is active in a wide range of fields. Lee Anne appeared on the long-running American cooking program “Top Chef” and eventually was engaged in producing the program. And she also supervised in-flight meals for Hawaiian Airlines.

The newly opened Coco Head Cafe Tokyo offers a wide variety of Hawaii local signature dishes, in brunch, lunch, and pupu (appetizers in Hawaiian word) styles.

So Lee Ann’s original menu including “Cornflake French Toast”, “Kokomoko”, “Breakfast Bruschetta”, “Dumplings”, etc., allows you to enjoy the taste of Hawaii while you are in Tokyo.

Koko Moco

“Koko Moco” is a local food “Loco Moco” topped with kimchi tempura on garlic rice.

Cornflake French Toast

“Cornflake French Toast” is one of the Koko Head cafe’s signature items. It’s sweet and salty French toast covered in cornflake batter, topped with black sesame maple syrup, bacon, and ice cream.

This dish was inspired by the French toast of the hamburger chain restaurant that chef Lee Ann used to eat when she was young.

Breakfast Bibimbap

Bibimbap comes in a hot skillet with garlic rice, plenty of beef, vegetables, and kimchi topped with a fried egg. It’s a modern style Korean dish.

Chicky and Eggs

And if you want something that gives you energy and stamina in the morning, try “Chicky and Eggs”. It comes with fried chicken & French scramble egg with house-made pickles.

Breakfast Bruschetta

Breakfast Bruschetta is very tasty! Fresh fruit comes on top with macadamia nuts and honey yogurt on bread.

Creating a community-based restaurant

Lee Anne said about her vision in the interview as follows:

Like the Honolulu location, I want to build a community in Tokyo. So that you visit many times, not just one visit, after work, etc. We also have frozen cocktails, so please feel free to drop by.
