Matsumoto Castle Winter Lights Event Showcases Special Production
One of the winter entertainment in Japan is “lightings” or “Illumination” in Japanese. Why so popular? Well, people tend not to go out in cold weather, which means no spending. So businesses are trying to encourage people to go out and enjoy romantic winter lights and spend money! Does it make sense?
Today, we will travel to Nagano, Koshientsu Region. Matsumoto Castle is running a beautiful winter lights event called “Matsumoto Castle-Ice Crystal Sparkling Water Mirror” now and will showcase special effects for a week between January 16 and 22.
Ice Carving Special production
Starting with flurry of Ice crystals around in Matsumoto Castle, it gradually changes to a dynamic show using the entire castle. Enjoy the sound based on the movement of crystals using and light and the completion of sculpture.
Basic production
Three-minute works each based on the three themes of “present”, “past”, and “future” appear in order with the “ice crystals” that are the interval productions in between. The whole show is 30-minute long. They run seasonal events like the above-mentioned special production.
Present
Relaxing part that shows people’s energy and feelings as bubbles, overflowing from the stone wall and moat, popping, and gently pouring into the city of Matsumoto.

Past
This phase shows the heat and history of each era accumulated over many years with various lines and delivers it on high-tempo music.

Future
With the concept of the driving force toward the future, it is a dynamic and cyber-like show that warps into the unseen future world.

Ice crystals
This phase comes between these 3 shows above. The appearance of the ice crystals flurry is expressed with grains of light, emphasizing the original appearance of Matsumoto Castle.
